The Monument of Remembrance has nothing to do in Shanghai. According to a TNS ILRes, 47% of residents are opposed to the temporary transfer of the "Gëlle Fra”.

Too expensive, too risky, too symbolic for the country ... Luxemburger do not really understand why the Government, the Steering Committee for the Remembrance of the resistance and associations of former combatants have agreed that the Gëlle Fra should leave the Place de la Constitution and fly to an Expo in Shanghai.

According to a TNS ILRes survey performed between 23 and 24 February, one day after the announcement for the government, 47% of the 500 respondents are even against the transfer. And it is in the northern and southern parts of the countries where discontent is most pronounced.

One main reason given by opponents of this major project is that the cost of operation is deemed “inappropriate”. Many even wonder why the original is leaving the country and not a copy. In fact they fear, according to this survey, that the beautiful golden statue could well be damaged in transit.

"I believe that millions of Chinese do not know what symbolism behind the Gëlle Fra, although many are coming here to photograph her! I think it's exaggerated! "Stated the mayor of Luxembourg City, Paul Helminger yesterday who also noted that the monument does not belong to the City, but to the nation.
